Carlo Giovanni De Lorenzi
August 5, 1956 - June 26, 2026
CARLO DE LORENZI passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday June 26th, 2026. Born to Celestina and Bruno De Lorenzi in 1956, Carlo and older brother Alberto grew up immersed in love, food and music.
Carlo’s love of music began at the early age of four, supported by his parents who knocked down a wall to accommodate a new piano. Although trained in classical music, he would eventually branch out to pop, rock and jazz; composing, writing lyrics and performing throughout his life.
Following graduation from Chaminade College School, Carlo enrolled at Humber College where he met Judy, his wife, best friend and partner for the next 48 years. Once finished his studies at the University of Waterloo and Laurier University, Carlo and wife Judy decided to settle in Timmins where they welcomed Benji and Alex into the family.
Carlo was a keen lover of the arts and always welcomed a new challenge. He was an avid photographer throughout his life and completed several photo-essays, one of which, Garage Barrage, was exhibited in the Timmins Museum. Upon returning to Toronto following retirement, he began to learn to sketch and paint focusing primarily on animals and architecture as his subjects. Following his Glioblastoma diagnosis, he found solace in writing poetry.
Running was another of Carlo’s passions. He began running in his thirties and completed ten marathons and numerous other organized runs. In 2022 Carlo took on the challenge of running every street in his hometown of Toronto. After running at a near daily pace for three years, he completed all 10,390 streets and raised $22,000 for Community Music Schools of Toronto. Ever determined to hit the pavement, Carlo continued running through radiation and chemotherapy treatments finishing his final run of six kilometres on June 15th, 2026.
His true love was for his family. Supporting his wife and sons in whatever role was necessary; soccer coach, piano teacher, basketball fan, quilt design consultant, art critic or concert goer. More recently he welcomed Alex’s fiancée Julia to the family with whom he shared a passion for music, good conversation, and quality time with family.
A celebration of life will take place Sunday, July 5th from 1pm to 4pm at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre in Toronto, all are welcome.
