Brian passed away peacefully on February 11 after a brief illness, surrounded by family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Sally and his son Jake. He will be dearly missed by his brother Jim (Jackson), his sister Cathy (Dino), his mother Doreen (Walter, predeceased), his mother-in-law Dorothy, his father-in-law Peter (Laura), and his birth family, father Fred (Ena), half-brothers Jim, Dion and Colin, and half-sister Cathy. The sadness of his passing is shared by his extended family, many close friends, and colleagues.
From the time of his birth in 1965, Brian has been enriching the lives of others. He met Sally at the University of Guelph in 1987 where they quickly formed a deep and lasting bond that has carried them through the joys and challenges of life. On Sept. 16, 2025, they celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. For his son Jake, Brian was a model of how to be in the world.
Bringing happiness to parents Walter and Doreen, by his example Brian taught patience and resilience to his older brother Jim and was an attentive older brother to his sister Cathy.
Brian’s ability to connect with others is seen in the strength of the friendships he established throughout his life, friends who have journeyed through life together and supported one another.
Brian recently made contact with his birth family and discovered his family connection to Newfoundland. As a testament to his warmth and openness, he was quickly welcomed and was soon introduced to a wide range of relations.
After completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph, Brian attended Queen’s University where he studied law and was called to the bar in 1995. Though he often felt the weight and challenges of the legal profession, it became his way to support members of his community, ensuring people were treated as fairly as possible to the best of his ability.
Even in his death, Brian has continued to enrich others. Through the donation of his organs, he will enhance the quality of life for untold others.
Brian’s quick wit and his ability to recall facts and trivia is renowned by all who knew him. He shone when preparing delicious meals for others. A deep thinker, he loved examining ideas and was always curious about concepts and how the world works. He was quick to laugh and was always ready to reach out a hand to support others. He will be dearly missed.
