Boe Douglas Wong
September 9, 1929 - June 2, 2014
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather who left us peacefully after a brave and determined battle on Monday June 2, 2014. Born September 9, 1929 in Maple Creek Sask., He later lived in Brandon and Winnipeg Manitoba, before seeking his fortune in Toronto, ON. There he met and married Eleanore (Chu) and raised two children. Boe was trained as an Architect receiving his B. Arch Degree from the University of Manitoba in 1951. From his start at Weir & Cripps and then his own firm B.D. Wong Architect, Boe built a solid reputation for Honesty, Integrity and strong work ethic to get the job done “right.” He became a leading designer of food processing facilities, including many of the Weston Bakeries Plants, Chocolate products and Wing’s Foods, finally branching into steel fabrication facilities for Samuel & Son’s Ltd.
Son of Jim Choon and Hop Lin Woo. His wife Eleanore, his children: Laurie, and Brad and granddaughters Melissa and Jillian. Boe had many siblings. He was predeceased by his brothers Tommy, Don, and Horne, sister Eileen Allen (Frank) Half- brothers: Ying Chun, Hon Ding, Dong Gai, Duncan, Jack, Gene and Joe; and brothers-in-law Frank Allen and Frank Woo; Half Sister Helena (Chow); Sister-in-law Lynne. Boe is survived by his brothers Kye (Mary), and Lloyd (Pearl); sister Doreen Woo; half-brother Fong (Mabel); half-sisters-in-law Julia, Dolly, and Margaret and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
We are very proud of his many accomplishments and contributions. Throughout his life he took a great interest on the affairs of his many nieces and nephews as they proceed through school and onto their own careers, offering sage advice and kind words. He loved strolling in Edwards garden and a mall walking Veteran. “Long walk ruined” as a life long golfer he spent many hours trying to break the elusive 80. Boe loved testing Lady Luck through Horseracing, and trips to the blackjack tables. He enjoyed his garden, and puttering around the house. Many trips with Eleanore and family, from Alaska, across Canada, the Caribbean and European Cruises. A full life lived, we will miss his many humorous stories. We will all miss him dearly.
Boe’s family wish to express their appreciation to the many people who have devoted their time and talent to the fight against cancer and who assisted Boe in his 4-year struggle. Most recently, the caring staff at Bough Beeches Retirement Home. His family Physician Dr. Mervyn M. Jackson. Many thanks to Dr William Chu and the team at the Odette Cancer Center. Dr. Broady and the Palliative care staff at Providence Hospital. St Paul’s L'Amoreaux Center home care and Bayshore Home Health who provided many caring staff to help Boe.
