In memory of

Biserka Petrov

June 5, 1932 -  November 16, 2024

Biserka died peacefully, on November 16, 2024 at Bayview Extendicare Long Term Home.
Predeceased by her father Ziva, mother Stojanka, sisters Omerka and Ljubica and nephew Ian. She is lovingly remembered by her children Sally Slavica (Ian) & Zoran, brothers Ziva (Rose) & Mile (Ursula), brother in-law Sergei Piskun, nieces Anna (Brent), Sonja (Kenneth), Cyndy (Kerry), nephews, Robert, Alex (Laurie), Branko (Karen), Richard (Sarah) and grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Bisa was a very strong and independent woman, not only comfortable with a wrench or hammer but proficient in the kitchen. Biserka, affectionately known to family and friends as Keka, loved to entertain and amaze her guests with her baking expertise . When very young her niece Cyndi and nephew Robert were thrilled to go visit her and joyfully proclaimed “yeah, we are going to the bakery shop” because her nickname Keka they interpreted as Cake.

Kind and generous to family and friends, she always looked for a reason to throw a party. She loved to have fun and share her joy for family, friends and life. Most importantly she wanted to express her appreciation for their reciprocated affection.

She loved to dance, disco (at times strange), ballroom (always dressed to a tee and elegant) and Serbian folkdance Kolo.

A devoted teacher all her life, mostly at Church St. Public School in Toronto, she inspired some to follow in her footsteps in the education field.

In the true spirit of character, she remained strong, whilst enduring and struggling with partial paralyses, due to a stroke and the onset of Dementia. The Family wishes to thank the staff at Bayview Extendicare for providing her with the comfort and the challenging medical requirements for almost 4 years. Her daughter Sally, wishes to extend a special Thank You to the Head nurse Aurelia, who more often than not, went over and above.

Her memory will be forever cherished.

If desired in lieu of Yellow (her favourite colour) or white flowers, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or any Children’s foundation.

I am glad to have known my Teta Biserka and have many fond memories of her, when growing up with my Baba (her sister). I remember sleeping over with her and one time she bought me my favourite kind of gum – and bought an actual bucket load too! She was always generous with me and I appreciate everything she did for me.

I will always think of her fondly in my memories. I wish her family and friends who remain behind peace during this difficult time.

Драга Славице, Зоране и цела породица, свима Вама најискреније саучешће. Нека нађете мир и снагу једно у другом и у лепим успоменама на своју мајку, веома снажну и изузетну жену. Бог благословио њену душу.
Dear Slavica, Zoran, and the whole family, our deepest condolences to you all. May you find peace and strength in each other and in the fond memories of your mother, a very strong and remarkable woman. God bless her soul.

We remember Keka with a profound sense of love.
She always presented herself as someone who demanded respect and awe, but loving as well.
Her cooking ability was obviously well-known. To say "She was a powerhouse" is an understatement.
We will miss her deeply.
With much love,
The Piskun and Willow families.
