It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Betsy Soei Len Tjin-A-Djie, who passed away peacefully on June 23, 2026 at the age of 87.
Born in Paramaribo, Suriname, to A-Choy Lieuw (William) and Chin Tjauw-Tai (Alice), the youngest daughter, Betsy embodied a true survivor’s spirit, tackling every one of life's challenges and ailments head-on with grace and determination.
In 1969, Betsy immigrated to Canada from Suriname alongside her husband and two young boys, courageously building a vibrant new life in Toronto. She was a devoted wife to her late husband, Reginald and a deeply loving mother and grandmother.
Betsy and Reg eventually moved to Huntsville, where they spent over twenty wonderful years embracing the beauty of Muskoka cottage country. A natural gathering-maker, Betsy quickly became a beloved fixture in her community—even famously teaching all of her Huntsville neighbours how to play Mahjong.
Above all, Betsy loved life, family, and celebration. She was happiest when surrounded by friends and loved ones, hosting gatherings, and expressing her love through food by cooking all types of cuisines.
She is survived by:
Her son, Derick and his wife, Susan.
Her son, Milton and his wife, Joanne
Her cherished grandchildren: Jason, Jeremy, Michelle, Jarod, Aidan, and Simone.
Betsy adapted beautifully to everything life threw her way, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, warmth, and joy. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.
May she rest in eternal peace.
We will be celebrating Betsy's life on July 11.
