Barbara Douglass (Formerly Young) passed away on March 5th, 2026 in the loving embrace of her family at Oak Ridges Hospice, following a brief and brave battle with cancer. She lived a long and beautiful life, beginning in La Romaine, Trinidad and Tobago in 1938. Born the youngest of three children to William Young and Johanna “Violet” Farrell, she cherished her island upbringing with her late siblings Joyce Braithwait and William “Billy” Young. Widowed from her beloved husband Joseph Carlton “Carlos” Douglass in 2001, Barbara remained a devoted and steadfast matriarch to the Douglass family tree and its many branches for the rest of her life.
Barbara was the treasured mother of Lisa Lassalle, Deborah (Patrick) Taylor, Fay Fox, and Rachel Douglass, who will all miss her deeply. She was “Mum-Mum” to Amanda, Danielle, Michael, Jordan, Justin, Jade, Johanna, Roman, and her nine great-grandchildren. Barbara was a pillar of gentle grace and strength, and she will be missed extraordinarily by her family and the many friends whose lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Forest Brook Community Church on Thursday, April 9th, 2026 at 11 am.
