It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of April-Wendy Higgs (née Fiedtkou), who died peacefully in her sleep on June 13, 2026.

Born in British Guyana on May 12, 1960, to Anne and Walter Fiedtkou, April was the eldest of their two children. She was predeceased by her beloved mother, Anne Fiedtkou, who passed away in 1982. She is lovingly remembered by her family, including Walter (Marilyn) Fiedtkou, Jacquie (Paul) Brown, Ron (Xamdia) Fiedtkou, Neil (Nadia) Fiedtkou. April leaves behind two children, Rebecca and Joshua.

April valued education and lifelong learning. She attended Wilfrid Laurier University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, and later received a Diploma in Business Administration from the Katharine Gibbs School in New York. She then continued her studies at Seneca College, graduating with a Diploma in Aesthetics.

A devoted Christian throughout her life, April was deeply committed to serving others. She generously volunteered both within her church and in the wider community, supporting charitable initiatives, children's food missions, and youth programs through Kids Club. Her faith and compassion were reflected in the countless lives she touched through her service.

April spent some time in British Columbia, where she continued her volunteer work and community involvement. Throughout her life, she traveled frequently between British Columbia, Ontario, Florida, and the Caribbean. She remained active through her property management business, her work in aesthetics, and her ongoing dedication to church missions and children's programs.

Above all, April was a devoted mother, grandmother, and family member. She cherished her grandchildren, Gunner, Anya and Mercy, and was especially close to her stepdaughter, Brianna (Frank) Hepburn. She was also a caring and loving aunt to her nieces and nephews, Brittney, Cassandra, Alexander, Olivia, Isabelle, and Mikhail.

April will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives were enriched by her kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

Funeral Services will be held at Simple Alternative – Pickering (Thornton Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Centres), located at 1057 Brock Road, Pickering, Ontario, L1W 3T7, on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow the service. The family has requested for any guests who are attending the service to kindly not wear any mourning colours, bright colours only.
