Berkach, Annie (nee Smytaniuk)
Passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 30th, 2014 at Village of Humber Heights following a brief illness at the age of 80. Predeceased by her Beloved husband John. Annie is survived by her three children, Linda (Gary Osborne), John (Sheila) and Tiffany. She will be forever cherished by her seven grandchildren, Curtis (Sandra), Kyle (Natalie), John, Brandon, Chelsey, Robert, Lauren and her two great-grandchildren Sofia and Luke. She will be fondly remembered by her two sisters Jenny and Victoria from Saskatchewan. Annie was born in Meath Park Saskatchewan.

She was a polio survivor at 19 years old who went on to raise 3 children, while providing child care for neighbours and was an excellent seamstress able to create beautiful bridesmaid dresses. Annie and her husband John became Jehovah’s Witnesses in the early 1960’s. They were known for their amazing open door hospitality, true western style. Pioneers and Bethelites were fed and provided a good time on a multitude of occasions.

At 50 years of age she started to work for Eatons in the call centre. One of the funniest stories we heard was about a women who wanted to return her mattress no doubt well aware of Eaton’s very lenient return policy. The women complained it had bed bugs. Annie asked how long she had the mattress. The answer was 20 years.

In her 60’s she started to pioneer as a full time proclaimer of the good news of God’s kingdom. Many enjoyed Annie’s conversation and spirit and found her home a place of refuge and comfort. See
www.jw.org
to know why she believed God's Kingdom is the solution to mankind's problems.

The last 4 years she resided at Village of Humber Heights long term care home. Although her health deteriorated she never lost her spirit. Many referred to her as feisty. Annie made many loyal friends over the years. She will be missed. Many look forward to the resurrection when Annie will return as a healthy vibrant woman.

John 5:28, 29 ‘Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out,’

Isaiah 35:6 ‘At that time the lame will leap like the deer, And the tongue of the speechless will shout for joy. For waters will burst forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert plain.

Isaiah 33:24 ‘And no resident* will say: “I am sick.” The people dwelling in the land will be pardoned for their error’
