It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Annesley. He died peacefully on May 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Claribel Edith Steinwall and beloved father to Allan, Alec, and Andrew; father-in-law to Mina, Rebecca and Julie. He will be sorely missed by his sister Norma, and surviving brothers, Ronald (Maureen), and Shirley (Dolores). He is predeceased by brother, Marcian (Yvonne). Born in 1938, in Negombo, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Annesley emigrated to Canada in April 1960, where he joined his fiancée, Claribel, who had emigrated the previous fall. Annesley and Claribel married within days of his arrival, a marriage that would last for 62 years, before Claribel’s passing in 2022. They lived, worked and raised their family in Toronto, Canada. Annesley worked and retired, after a 42-year career with the same company, H. Paulin and Co.
He was proud of and loved his grandchildren, Frank (Juanita); Maegyn, Riki-lee, Emily, Jackson, Claire, Sam and Madeline, and great-grandchildren, Robbie, Andrew, and Raine.
In his youth, Annesley was an exceptional athlete, formally competing in both swimming and body-building. He had a terrific sense of humour and loved to laugh. His favourite pastime was to play cards, whether a game of whist with his grandchildren, bridge, with friends and family, or playing poker at the casino. He enjoyed the thrill of horse races, and a fun night of bingo, with his wife and sister. Annesley was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and loved them unconditionally. He was a reader and interested in many subjects. At various times in his life, he was also an avid stamp and coin collector.
At his request a private interment will take place with family, followed by a celebration of life for family and friends to be held at Pine Hills Cemetery, (see address on this site) on June 27th, at 12:00pm, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you enjoy with gratitude the love of your friends and family, and buy yourself a lotto ticket in Annesley’s honour.
The live stream link will become available at the top of this page on Saturday June 27th at 12:00pm EST.
You stood by us and taught us the value of work and perseverance. You showed us how to love unconditionally, and most importantly, you showed us that, despite its responsibilities, life is family, friends, and happiness.
