Anna John
(December 16, 1929 - February 15, 2014)
With grace, just as she lived her life, Anna John, surrounded by her loved ones, peacefully departed this world to join her adoring husband, Koppara Ghevarghese John, on February 15, 2014. She is predeceased by her mother, Deenamma Mathew, her father, T.M. Mathew, and her sister, Susamma Chacko.
She will be forever cherished by her son, Beno John and daughter-in-law, Jeanette Hagarty, her daughter, Dr. Bina John and son-in-law, Dr. Verghese John, adored by her beloved grandchildren, Saira and Paul, and loved by her sisters, Dr. Shantamma Mathew, (Trivandrum, India) and Rajamma Mathew, (Edmonton, Alberta) and all of her precious nieces and nephews, Reena, Dayana, Sonia, Robin, Binoy, Eva and Bimal.
Anna John was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and teacher. She will be remembered as an innovative educator, an inspired feminist, a passionate advocate for social justice, a gifted painter, chef, gardener, public speaker and writer. With her beautiful eyes and her beautiful smile, she exuded kindness and generosity to those who crossed her path. Her strong faith in God was an inspiration to all her Sunday School students in the St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox Churches in Edmonton and Toronto. Anna’s joy for life was never impeded by circumstance. Her infectious laughter will never be forgotten.
We are very grateful to Dr. Tang-Wei, Maria Martinez, Dr. Goldstein, Dr. Verghese John, and the wonderful nurses and support staff at Kensington Gardens who provided Anna’s medical care with such love and compassion. We are forever indebted to Beth, Mila, Lynn, DhenDen, Miles, Edith and Miles for taking such good care of Mom.
