It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ann nee D’Arcy Hamepohja on October 29, 2025.
Born in Dublin, Ireland on September 30, 1945, Ann lived a life defined by love, laughter, and quiet strength. Her beloved daughter, Desiree Hamepohja, was born on April 14, 1976 and was known for her laughter, her love of the outdoors, and most of all, her deep devotion to her son Zachary. Preceding Ann, Desiree passed away sadly on January 17, 2023, and has been greatly missed by all who knew her but no one more than Ann, whose heart never stopped carrying her daughter’s memory.
Ann was married to her devoted husband Peter Hamepohja for 50 years, and together they shared a beautiful life filled with humour, devotion, and enduring companionship. Their beloved grandson Zachary remained the second great love of their lives.
Ann was predeceased by her parents Michael and Rose (Sweeney) D’Arcy, and by siblings Eamonn (Michael) (wife Alice), Vivion (Maurice) (wife Rosalind), Mary, Brian, and Sheila (Judith) (husband Noel). She is lovingly remembered by her brother Ciaran, her niece Michelle, nephew John and by many nieces and great nieces, nephews and great nephews in Canada, Ireland, the United States.
Known for her sharp wit and Irish sense of humour, Ann had a gift for finding light even in difficult moments. Her laughter filled every room, and her warmth made everyone feel like family.
By her side until the end, Peter cared for and loved her every day throughout her nearly year of illness. His love sustained her, and her love gave him strength. Ann will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, resilience, humour, and the love she shared so freely with those around her.
The family thanks the care and compassion of the doctors, nurses and PSWs at Brampton Civic Hospital.
