Anastase Mentis
November 21, 1926 - November 22, 2015
Anastase George Mentis died peacefully in hospital on Sunday, November 22, 2015 in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. He was 89 years of age and had been fighting ALS for more than five years.
He is survived by his two sisters Basiliki Lebentakos and Nicoletta Tzoulas, his three sons and daughters in law, George Mentis, Gus & Christina Mentis, and Nick & Donna Mentis, as well as his two granddaughters Anastasia & Eleni Mentis.
He was born in Krokees, Sparta, Greece on November 21, 1926 to Eleni and George Mentis and as a teenager years later helped his family survive World War II and the postwar era. He immigrated to Canada in 1959, a country that became his primary home for the rest of his life.
Anastase started working as a teenager in the post-war era of the 1950s, went to college in Canada, was a head chef of a general hospital and eventually became a restaurateur. Afterwards he was retired for more than 30 years and lived his life the way he always wished, part in the new world and part in the old country.
His family and friends wish him farewell. He is finally at peace once again.
