Amelia Maude Pereira, affectionately known as Winkie, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, at 1:25 AM at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, at the age of 101. Born on June 17, 1924, in India, Amelia lived a vibrant and fulfilling life, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
She is lovingly survived by her daughter Charlotte, son Ashley, daughter-in-law Shawna, and her cherished grandchildren Christopher, Michelle, David, Zoe, and Nyla. Amelia was also the proud great-grandmother to Kaitlyn, Alexander, Cash, and Brekken, who brought her immense joy.
Amelia had a remarkable talent for entertaining family and friends, creating memories filled with laughter and love. In her youth, she was celebrated as the badminton champion of Burma, showcasing her competitive spirit and athleticism. Additionally, she was a fiercely competitive bridge player, enjoying the camaraderie and challenges of the game.
A memorial mass to honour Amelia’s life will be held on Thursday, October 2, at 6:00 p.m. at Saint Brigid Catholic Church, located at 300 Wolverleigh Blvd, Toronto, ON, M4C 1S6. Family and friends are invited to join together to celebrate the legacy of this remarkable woman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Amelia's memory. She will be deeply missed but will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness and spirit.
