Alvar Ekberg

Alvar Roland Ekberg
Peacefully, Alvar passed away at NorthYork General Hospital on April 24, 2013 in his 91st year. Beloved husband of Hilja (née Auväärt), devoted father of Marianne (Peter) and Michael, cherished grandfather of Kristina, Len and Austin. Alvar was born in Emmaljunga, Sweden and was the youngest child of August and Nancy Ekberg. He is predeceased by his sister Aina. In Hälsingborg. he met and married the love of his life, a fiesty gal of Estonian descent.
The couple moved to Canada in 1951 and started raising a family in Toronto. Alvar continued to hone his skills as a master upholsterer for over 35 years. His clients included many notable antique shops. In his retirement years, Alvar enjoyed travelling, babysitting his young grandchildren, and because he still had his driver’s licence at the age of 90, he was able to help out other seniors by running errands for them. A kind, compassionate, caring friend to all that knew him. Alvar will be deeply missed by his friends and relatives in Canada, Sweden and Estonia.
