Allan Lindsay
April 25, 1929 - July 5, 2013
Allan passed away on July 5, 2013 at Scarborough Hospital (Birchmount Campus, formerly Scarborough Grace Hospital) at the age of 84. Allan is greatly missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Joan, his son Todd, his daughter Carole and her husband James MacCallum. He is also remembered by his cousin Ruby Nichols and her family, by his many nieces and nephews on Joan's side of the family and by the many friends he made during his lifetime. Allan was very gregarious, he loved to talk and tell stories - he certainly had his favourites and we knew many of them by heart. He also loved food and talking about food and, of course, watching baseball and golf. More seriously, he was very proud of the work he did during his lifetime, from his early jobs in movie theatres and fish & chip stores, to his time in the Royal Canadian Air Force including receiving his Commission as a Pilot Officer in 1955, to being an excellent salesman, to his volunteer work with the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Sutherland and Chan where he helped massage therapy students understand the benefits of massage for those with MS. Although he had MS for almost 50 years, he didn't let this disease define him or make him a victim. He kept a positive outlook and - sometimes it seemed through sheer strength of will - he continued to walk into his late 70s and to drive into his 80s. We loved him for it and we were and are very proud of him. According to Allan's wishes, he will be cremated and later interred at Prospect Cemetery. In place of a funeral service, there will be a celebration of Allan's life on Sunday, July 14th from 1 to 4 pm in the common room on the ground floor of 3131 Bridletown Circle, Scarborough, Ontario. Should you wish to make a memorial donation in Allan's name, please consider the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Toronto Chapter - http://mssociety.ca/chapters/toronto/help.htm.
