Allan Einar Eistrat, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on December 29, 2025, at the age of 72.
Born in Toronto to Hulda and the late Einar Eistrat, Allan spent most of his life in the city he called home. He was the cherished only son of his parents and is lovingly remembered by his mother Hulda; his sister Lia; and his brother-in-law Erik Hess. Allan was a caring uncle to Leila (Ryan Buchanan) and her children Hali, Sten, Kalla, and Tanner Puust, and to Kairi (Grant West) and their children Aili, Eliisa, and Mateo. He was predeceased by his nephew Tarvo Hess, whom he held close in his heart.
Although he had no children of his own, he especially loved his nieces and grandnieces and nephews. He had an easy, playful way of connecting with them—often through jokes and just plain silliness.
Allan maintained ties with extended family in Estonia and abroad and enjoyed sharing stories, humour, and light-hearted banter whenever the opportunity arose.
His second home was the Toronto Estonian Baptist Church, where Allan was a long-time member, enthusiastic supporter, and active volunteer. He made significant contributions behind the scenes, particularly through his work with sound systems and recordings, and generously gave his time to support church activities. He was valued for his dependability, technical skill, and quiet willingness to help.
Allan was also actively involved in the Toronto Estonian community. He volunteered extensively, served on the Board of Directors of Ehatare, the Estonian seniors’ home, for the past 12 years, and was a member of the fraternity Korp! Vironia. He was known as someone who could strike up a conversation with anyone and loved to bring humour into any setting.
Allan lived modestly and independently and could engage easily with people socially, though he chose a simple, solitary life on his own terms. Allan will be remembered for his storytelling, heartfelt reminiscing, his presence at meaningful gatherings, his service to his community, and his slapstick style sense of humour.
A funeral service will be held at York Cemetery on January 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., located at 160 Beecroft Road, Toronto, with burial to follow.
