Alexandra Sadiwnyk
March 23, 1923 - March 27, 2015
Passing peacefully on the morning of March 27, with the love of family and friends by her side. Alexandra is predeceased by her two husbands, one son, her parents and siblings. A remarkable woman who endured remarkable times, Alexandra had both a sombre and colourful past. A survivor of Siberian work camps in the war, she lived in Kenya, learned Swahili, moved to Persia followed by Italy then to London before making her home in Canada with Volodymyr Sadiwnyk (predeceased). Together they built a life, had two children (Sophia married to Mike Gaida and Stephen married to Cathy Sadiwnyk nee Walaga) became business owners and worked as good, honest Canadians while still honouring their Ukrainian heritage. Alexandra adored being a mother, a grandmother (to John Gaida married to Jennifer Hillier) and a great-grandmother (to Malachy and August Gaida). Baba was a beloved fixture in the Gaida household, always ready with a story from her past and a wish for all to eat more, have another drink and put on a sweater. Never to be outdone, Alexandra battled many health concerns in her life in order to make just one more graduation, one more birthday, one more family gathering. We hope you will join us in remembering this incredible woman and her life, and give her that one last big celebration which she so richly deserves. Baba, you will be missed. We love you.
