<div itemprop="description">It is with immense sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Alexander McDonald Smith on June 16th, 2011. Alex was born August 4th, 1934 and lived a full and rewarding life. He was happiest when in the company of his family and friends and always had a kind word and a smile on his face. Hockey, golf, volunteering at Bingo, and trips to Balsam Lake, were just a few of the things he loved. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Peggy Granatstein Smith, children Debora and Matt, Stan and Yvette, Gord and Sally, Debra and David and his grandchildren whom he loved so dearly, Wes, Richelle, Dane, Danielle, Lauren, Bryan, Wyatt and Blaire. A memorial will be held at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Visitation Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto [east gate entrance, north of St. Clair Ave., 416-485-5572] on Thursday, June 23rd at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to The Heart and Stroke Foundation may be made.</div>
