Predeceased by his patient wife May (Mabel Simpson) in 2011. Loving father of Julie (Glenn), Mike (Angie), Kathie (John) and Scott. Proud grandfather to Ryan, Michael, Katie, Sarah (Nick), Jamie (Chantelle), Bradley (Vanessa) and Kristin (Vince) and great grandfather to Ellie, Lucy, Logan, Carter, Lacey, Domenic, Dante and Jack and special Uncle to Joe Baker.
Alex passed away quietly after battling dementia for five years. His first 88 years were lived to the fullest. He was a self-appointed ‘social director’ and the driving force behind family gatherings and dinners with friends. Alex had a terrific sense of humor and was known to be the ‘Fun’ adult. He was a joker and the instigator of many pranks and water fights over the years, especially during vacations at Wasaga Beach. He was a kid at heart.
Alex was an avid sports fan and active participant right up until his 88th year, golfing 18 holes (always in shorts because that’s how golf was meant to be played) and playing shinny at the local rink into his 80’s. He was always up for a game of road hockey with anyone who was around and had a supply of hockey sticks on standby in the corner of the veranda.
Alex worked at maintaining relationships with friends and extended family and had friendships that lasted decades including a poker club with boyhood friends that lasted 70 years.
Nothing was more important to him than family and friends. He was always there to cheer you on and offer words of encouragement and advice that usually starting with “If you don’t mind a suggestion….”
Alex requested a private cremation and no gathering as he “hates those things!” Instead, please continue his tradition and get together with your friends and family and raise a glass to a Great Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle and Friend and remember the Fun Times!
He will always be in our hearts.
We would like to thank the staff at Queens Estate (especially Donna and Agnes) for the exceptionally kind and compassionate care provided over the last 5 years.
