Alexander Brikmanis
October 4, 1927 - February 28, 1013
Alexander Brikmanis, 85, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, and formerly of Lansing, Michigan, died Thursday, February 28, 2013 at his home.
He was born October 4, 1927 in Jelgava, Latvia. He was a chemical engineer, graduating from the University of Toronto. During his lifetime he worked for Polysar Corporation (Petrocan), Mustang Engineering, and DART Corporation. He built plastics factories all over the world throughout his career, retiring two years ago.
Alexander served as the church council president of the Latvian Lutheran Church in Lansing, Michigan for many years and attended seminary at Corcordia College in Alberta, Canada, before transferring to the University of Toronto. He was an avid reader and patron of the arts, and was a lifelong member of the Selonija Fraternity.
He is survived by his sons, John (Carol) Brikmanis, Oak Harbor and Charles (Debbie) Brikmanis, Aledo, Texas, and grandchildren, Alex (Bethany) Brikmanis, Grace (Kurt) Ferrell, and Kristin Brikmanis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Aina (Balodis) Brikmanis.
Funeral Service will be held from the York Cemetery & Visitation Centre, North York, Ontario on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. where friends may call after noon on Saturday. Interment will be at 3 P.M. in York Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, or the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia, OMFA, c/o Daina Albertina, 1053 Alder Lane, Naperville, IL 60540.
