
Adriana Cocq Uribe
Adriana died peacefully on June 2, 2012 in her home in Toronto, surrounded by her family, after a long and hard-fought battle with breast cancer. She was 71 years young. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 50 years, Emilio. She was a loving mother to her children Alex (Anh) Cocq, Pauline (Gord) Saunders, Richard (Rosemary) Cocq, and Karen (David) Cocq. Dearest Grandma to James, Emily, Nathalie, Laura, Sofia, Luca and Siena. She was a caring daughter and is survived by her parents Emigdio and Felicita Uribe. She was a dear sister and will be missed by Gladys, Emigdio, Maria Cristina, Lidia, Luis Hernan, Christian and Roberto. She will also be missed dearly by her 29 nieces and nephews.
It was on a bus ride home from University that she met a nice young man, Emilio, who offered her a seat, and she offered to hold his books. They were married on December 30, 1962. Three children soon followed, and after many moves and immigration to Canada, came a fourth. Adriana always believed in service to others. In Chile, she taught Special Education and was a teacher trainer. In Mexico, she taught Spanish at the American School, and in Canada, she was a social worker and later a Spanish and ESL teacher. She devoted many years doing settlement and advocacy for immigrants and refugees.
Family and Friends are gladly welcome for a visitation on June 4, 2012, from 5 to 9 pm, at Mt. Pleasant Visitation Center, 375 Mt. Pleasant Road, Toronto. Service will be at Mt. Pleasant Visitation Center, on June 5, 2012, at 10:30 am, reception to follow.
