ADAM RAYMOND WOLFE
March 10, 1928 – October 3, 2013

Beloved father of Mark (Darlene) and Christopher (mary-Anne), and playful grandfather of Michael, Ellen and Stephen. He is survived by his brothers Walter (Shirley), Ted (Mary), Alfred ( Anne) and sisters Connie Wolfe, and Elizabeth Shapansky (Jack), and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins across Canada and the United States. He was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Frances Wolfe (Werbecki), siblings Wilfred, Joseph, Felix (Elma), Albert (Mary), Helen Pawlinski (Mike), Albina Bradley (Nat), Marie Shymkiw (Bill), Emily Bazlyo (Walter) and Adella (Ethel) Yaciuk (Dan).
Adam was born on the Trembowla farm near Dauphin, Manitoba. In 1933 he was orphaned and raised by his older siblings. He attended Trembowla School until grade 10 and moved to Minitonas, Manitoba to live with his sister Helen for grade 11. At the age of 19 his schooling was interrupted when he contracted Polio in both legs, (which permanently effected his mobility), and was hospitalized for a year. Following his discharge from hospital, he underwent intensive physiotherapy while living with his sister Ethel in Winnipeg, and completed grade 12. After graduation in 1949, he went to work for the department of Health in the Accounting Office. In 1952, Adam moved to Toronto to live with his brother Joe, and secured a position with the American Optical CO. and remained in there employ for 7 years. Adam attended accounting classes at the University of Toronto during the evenings, and graduated in 1963 as a Registered Industrial Accountant (RIA). In 1968 he went to work for Durham and Hush Inc. and in 1973 became the Financial Controller of H.Ruhl Machinery Co. until his retirement in 1990.
On August 3, 1957 Adam married Evelyn Ada (Judy) Abbott of Toronto. Their marriage was short lived, but bound by fate. They re-united in the late 1960’s, and gave birth to Mark in 1969 and Christopher in 1972. Those early years were filled with much love and happy memories. Despite their best efforts Adam and Evelyn divorced in 1987. However, both carried mutual respect in their roles as parents to their children.
Adams retirement was filled with travel to Alaska and the continental United States. He settled in a flat on High Park Boulevard in Toronto and enjoyed the comfort of a routine with family, friends, and quiet living. He loved attending gatherings with family and extended family. You would often find Adam at Harvey’s on the Queensway in Toronto, reading a paper, having a coffee, and enjoying riveting conversations with complete strangers. He especially valued his friendship with Walter Huchlak, who passed away in 2005.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the “Polio Syndrome Research Project”, via the Sunnybrook Foundation.
We love Dad, you will be missed.
