It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our dear mother and grandmother, Zois Rose Simeon, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the age of 97 in Brampton, Ontario. Mom passed away peacefully at Faith Manor, Holland Christian Homes, after a brief illness. Predeceased by her loving husband Chris of 73 years. Loving mother to James and Vicky (Tom) and dear grandmother (Baba) to Lara, Leah, David, Vanessa (Vince) and Steven.
Zois was born on May 20, 1928, in the village of Agia Paraskevi, Sfeta Petka, in Greece to Elinka Rakovitie and George Passas (William). She was a dear sister to predeceased Michael.
Chris and Zois were married on December 8, 1948 and immigrated to Canada in 1954 with their son James and crossed the Atlantic Ocean during Hurricane Hazel. Here with hard work and long hours they started their own restaurant business along with Michael and Pearl Passas and Angelo Simeon. They ran a successful business "The Royal York Restaurant and Tavern" for 25 years. It was truly a "family" business where everyone worked there at one time or another. The restaurant was well known for its outstanding dishes such as roast beef, spare ribs with nippy sauce, roast chicken, the luncheon specials, homemade soups and a wide selection of desserts. The coconut cream pie was an absolute favorite. Their banquet hall hosted many weddings, showers and seasonal dinners.
Chris and Rose retired at 58 and enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with their family. Their grandchildren were their pride and joy. Both Rose and Chris loved growing peppers, tomatoes, beans and onions and had several fruit trees. She loved to make beautiful lace crotchet for towels and handkerchiefs. Her cooking of zelniks, mazniks, tsoureki, pogacha, cabbage rolls and cheesecakes were truly delicious. When mom and dad hosted Christmas, New Years, Easter and Thanksgiving, the family meals were truly unforgettable and these are memories we will always treasure.
Rose was a warm, open and engaging person with a wide circle of family members and friends whom she stayed in contact with. She was also well known for her generosity to her family and friends.
Rose is resting at the Meadowvale Cemetery. The funeral will take place on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Visitation is 9am to 10am, followed by the church service at 11am at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Mississauga, followed by internment at Meadowvale Cemetery. The family welcomes everyone afterwards to join them for a luncheon honoring and celebrating the life of our dear mother. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Canadian Cancer Society.
