Our beloved mother, Yun Oi Wong, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born into an affluent family near Canton, China, our mother’s life was marked by courage and resilience from a young age. At just 16, she left her home for Hong Kong to escape communism, carrying very little but determination and strength. There, she worked in a textile factory and built a respectable living through perseverance and hard work.
At 22, she married our father, and together they raised two sons and two daughters. Though life brought many hardships, through our father’s salary and our mother’s countless part-time jobs, they ensured their children were cared for and educated. One of our mother’s greatest achievements—often shared proudly with close friends—was seeing her children attend universities in Canada.
In the 1990s, our parents immigrated to Canada to reunite with their children and to joyfully build their final home together.
Our mother will be remembered for her generosity, courage, quick wit, and her deep love for gourmet cooking and mahjong. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and a welcoming spirit that brought family and friends together.
She is survived by her children Allen (Clara), Kitty (Keith), Mandy (Nelson), and Louis (Evon); her grandchildren Alex, Zora (Wonkun), Eugen, and Sheena; and her great-grandchildren Ella and Haley, who were her pride and joy. She is also fondly remembered by many dear friends who became family.
She will forever live on in our hearts.
