We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of 余源亨 Yuen Hang (Eric) Yu. He passed away early in the morning on July 12th, 2026 at Michael Garron Hospital in their Palliative care unit.

Yuen Hang was born in Taishan, Guangdong but early in his teen years, he moved to Hong Kong. In Hong Kong he met his beautiful wife, Po Lan (Nancy). After getting married, they decided to immigrate from Hong Kong to Toronto and together, they built a family in the East End and have lived there ever since. Yuen Hang was an incredible son, father and grandfather. He worked many different jobs when moving to Canada, but one thing that he brought over from China was his love for martial arts. Yuen Hang had deep roots in his martial arts community as a Club Master and during his time there, he practiced Tai Chi and Wing Chun. Henry, Yuen Hang’s son, recalls the days where his father would take him to his club meets on Bathurst St (not far from Bathurst Station) and he would be surrounded by fellow people who shared the same love and passion that he witnessed in his father. Helaina, Yuen Hang’s granddaughter also remembers the times where her “Yeye” would teach her the basic fundamentals of Tai Chi and meditation. Memories like these will forever be engraved into their hearts.

Besides Yuen Hang’s love for martial arts, he was a man that enjoyed life, loved to eat and loved to cook. He was easy going and the best way we could describe him is someone who would just “go with the flow”. If you ever wanted to find him, he would always be located somewhere in Toronto’s Chinatown having dim sum and chatting with his friends.

He is survived by his wife, Po Lan; son, Henry; daughter-in-law Perlita; granddaughter Helaina; and dog, Kyrah.

Yuen Hang, you will be deeply missed and we are sending so much love from afar.
