Marica “Vera” Khoury (née Kardasopoulos) passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on August 25, 2026 at the age of 76, in her bedroom in Shepherd Village, where she spent the final stages of her eight-year dementia journey, being supported by the caregivers who would become our extended family.
An avid traveller and global citizen, Vera found home in Amman, Toronto, St. Paul, Cork and Riyadh over the course of her life. Dubbed an “eternal student” by her husband, Vera’s personal bookshelf was stacked with heavily-highlighted works on psychology, neurology and spirituality, topics that she was always eager to discuss or debate. She poured her huge heart into motherhood, volunteer work, caregiving and the Antiochian Women group of her beloved church, St. George. Vera enjoyed playing tennis, journaling during her sacred morning coffee ritual, and testing new recipes at the epic family holiday celebrations she hosted every year in the Khoury home.
She is survived by her son, Charlie, daughter, Dawn (Yashar), grandsons, Xavier and Damien, brothers, John (Lian) and Banayot (Mary), sister, Katie (Bassam), and many nieces and nephews, and is now finally reunited with her beloved husband, Issa.
We will forever miss the way her explosive laughter brought the house to life.
