Vassilios William “Bill” Nicolaou was born on December 3rd, 1933 in Florina, Greece. As a child, he was social, outspoken, and very ambitious. He developed his business acumen selling fruits and freshly baked bread on the streets of Florina in order to help support the family.

In his early 20s, he left Greece for greater opportunities and a better life in Canada. Despite having no money and knowing very little English, he distinguished himself as a businessman in the grocery industry and a shrewd investor.

He met and married the love of his life, Helen. They devotedly raised three wonderful boys. They travelled together, laughed together, cried together, and grew stronger together.

He passed away peacefully in his home on October 31st, surrounded by his family. Bill was pre-deceased by his son Alex, and survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen, his sons Tom (Jeannie), and Tony (Fotoula), his grandchildren William (Shannon), Adam (Deidre), Evan, Helen, Paul, and Denise, and his great grandson Damien.

Bill loved to host and entertain his family and friends in his home. He will always be remembered as a generous man who cared first and foremost about the welfare of his family. He will be greatly missed.

Service will take place at St. Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Church, Markham, on Tuesday, November 10, 2026

Interment at 12:15 p.m. Elgin Mills Cemetery
