And slowly through the driven snow, the Saviour's steps I follow,
As the lonely moon would wander through the clouded skies of night,
And in my fading vision heaven's gates are open wide,
And I know the Guardian angels will lead me there aright.
From a poem by S. Floerke (Wilck), 1947
Susana Virginia Floerke, age 92, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025.
She will be sadly missed by her four loving children, Mark (Catherine), Paul (Maren), Ingrid (Kai), Heidemarie (Dana), and granddaughter Lilja. She will also be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews and their families: Cindy, Terrence, Ramon, Charlotte, Lutz, Marion, Cornelia, and Christine.
Susana was predeceased by her beloved husband, Werner, her brother, Claude, and her twin sister, Sylvia.
Susana was born in St. John, New Brunswick, grew up in Moores Mills, and was the first in her family to attend college, graduating from Mount Allison University. Susana was an adventurer and pioneer. Her journey took her from New Brunswick to Toronto, Ontario, where she met her husband, Werner. Their marriage lasted over 60 years. After the birth of her children, the family moved to Germany, where Susana embraced the language and culture, rising from her German heritage while cherishing her Canadian roots. She generously shared her knowledge and passion for the English language by tutoring children and adults in Hannover.
In their later years, Susana and Werner returned to Canada to enjoy the autumn of their lives.
Susana will be cherished for her joy in learning, deep appreciation of the arts, and gift for poetry. Throughout her life, she expressed her thoughts and feelings in poems.
Her warm personality and vibrant “joie de vivre” touched the hearts of everyone she encountered.
A celebration of Susana's life will be held at a later date in her honor.
