It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stylianos (Stanley) Borovilos, surrounded by his loving family. Stanley passed away exactly two weeks after his beloved wife, Soula, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage and a lifetime of love and memories.
Born in Nestani, Greece, Stanley came to Canada in 1961 seeking better opportunities. He often told the story of learning his first English words on the journey over: “Attention, attention.” Through determination and hard work, he built a life he was deeply proud of.
Stanley was a hardworking entrepreneur and a talented tailor. He could look at a customer and remember their measurements. Together, Stanley and Soula opened Brite Star Cleaners, which has proudly served the High Park community for nearly 60 years and continues to do so today.
Stanley was a devoted father to Mary (George), Konstantinos (Thula), Lily, and Antonia, and a proud and loving pappou to Victoria (Timothy), Chrysoula, Stelios, Georgios, Niko, and Alex. His family was his greatest source of pride and joy.
Stanley was predeceased by his sister Kyriakoula (Vasilios), his brothers-in-law Christos and George (Stratoula), and his sisters-in-law Angeliki (Zacharias), Maria (Antonios), and Anna (Dimitrios). He will be lovingly remembered by his sister Glykeria, his sister-in-law Dimitra (Kosta), his brothers-in-law Jim and Thanasi (Vasiliki), as well as his extended family, relatives, and friends.
Stanley was an incredibly strong, hardworking, and caring man. A true handyman, there was little he could not build or fix. He took great pride in the fourno he built, a traditional Greek wood-fired oven that became the heart of countless family gatherings, where meals and cherished memories were shared.
He enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden, a good Scotch, working with his hands, and cheering on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs.
In his final years, Stanley lived with Parkinson’s disease and dementia with remarkable resilience. His family is deeply grateful to his devoted caregiver, Krizelle, and to the many PSWs who cared for and supported him over the years.
Stanley’s legacy lives on through his family, the business he and Soula built together, and the many memories and traditions he leaves behind.
After 60 years of marriage, Stanley and Soula were separated for only two weeks. Their love and the life they built together will forever remain at the heart of their family.
May his memory be eternal.
