On May 7, 2026, Stefanos Pialis passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, grandchildren, and devoted caregivers, leaving behind a legacy of strength, love, and unwavering devotion to family. He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Peter (Shelley) and Tony; his cherished grandchildren, Elyse, Charles, James, and Larissa; and many extended family members and friends whose lives he touched deeply.
Born on March 29, 1943, in Patele, Macedonia, Stefanos was the beloved son of Evangalo and Levena Pialis. He was predeceased by his brothers, Jim and Peter Pialis. In his early twenties, he traveled to Germany for work before immigrating to Canada in 1970 in search of a better future.
Soon after arriving in Canada, he met Evanggelia Proskos, the love of his life. He proposed on their second date, beginning a beautiful marriage and life together in their cherished Scarborough home, where they raised their two sons.
Stefanos worked as an electrical technician and later as a caretaker in Scarborough schools. He and Evanggelia shared a passion for gardening, family, and creating a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
After 25 years of marriage, Stefanos was heartbroken by the loss of Evanggelia to cancer in 1996. In the years that followed, he devoted himself to his family and especially to his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness.
Later in life, Stefanos became a resident of Cedarbrook Lodge Retirement Residence. Throughout his life, he remained a proud Macedonian, deeply connected to his culture, history, and traditions.
Stefanos will be remembered for his humor, kindness, strength, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 11, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. at Pine Hills Cemetery. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Clement of Ohrid Macedonian Orthodox Cathedral, followed by interment at Pine Hills Cemetery. Family and friends are invited afterward to the church hall for a luncheon celebrating Stefanos’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the SHN Rowntree Palliative Care Program (https://giving.shnfoundation.ca/page/InMemoryOfStefanosPialis or through the Donations tab) would be appreciated in recognition of the exceptional care provided by Dr. Berry and his team during Stefanos’s final years.
