In memory of

Shun Hing WU CHEUNG 吳張舜卿太夫人

May 15, 1934 -  July 3, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mrs. WU CHEUNG Shun Hing, who passed away peacefully at Yee Hong Hospice in her sleep on July 3, 2024, at the age of 90.

Mrs. WU CHEUNG Shun Hing (吳張舜卿) was born on May 15, 1934, in Yang Zhou, Jiang Su province in the People’s Republic of China. In 1950, at the age of 16, she married to her husband, Wu Po Tien (吳葆天), under a pre-arranged marriage by her parents. Her husband was the eldest son of a scholar, Wu Gei Chan (吳寄塵), from Zhenjiang (鎮江), who was an honorable reputable elite, the Chief of Da Sun (大生) textile office in Shanghai in the early 20th century. In the late 1950's Mrs. WU CHEUNG Shun Hing and her husband moved to Hong Kong.

Life after immigration to Hong Kong took a drastic change. Despite life’s hardship, Mrs. WU CHEUNG Shun Hing demonstrated resilience. She upheld her father’s traditional teaching that a woman married only once in her lifetime. She was committed to bring up her three children. And she did. After her children grew up, God provided her with material richness and spiritual abundance. She became a Christian. After her two elder children got married, she lived with her youngest daughter, following her youngest daughter’s career pathway residing in Beijing (1989 to 1993), Singapore (1994-1996), and Canada (since 1996). Mrs. WU CHEUNG Shun Hing became a Canadian citizen in 2000 and lived in Canada for the rest of her life.

Mrs. WU CHEUNG Shun Hing was a dedicated mother, determined to protect and provide for her young children. She wanted to ensure her children could go to school and receive education. She was frugal. She was willing to learn new things. Her hobbies included reading, knitting, and gardening. She was committed to praying. For more than 10 years from around 2003 (approaching 70 years old), she knelt for 1 hour 3 times a day to pray for brothers and sisters in church, missionaries, and the world in general until she was no longer able to do so.

In her last 15 months of her life, Mrs. WU CHEUNG Shun Hing remained courageous and seldom complained about her illness. She trusted that the Lord would take care of her on earth and in heaven. God showed His grace during her illness. Her main complaint was feeling tired and sleepy most of the time. She passed away peaceful in her sleep on July 3, 2024.

Mrs. WU CHEUNG Shun Hing is survived by her 3 children: Dennis Wu Yu Choi (spouse Estella Keung Wan Chu), Georgina Wu Hoi Chu (spouse Leung Wing Lam) and Judy Wu Yuen Fong (spouse Herman Lam); 4 grandchildren Dorothy Wu (spouse Edwin Kwok), Desmond Wu (spouse Leonie Lee), Janet Leung (spouse Alvin Lai) and Jacob Leung; and 4 great-grandchildren, Elden Kwok, Emmett Wu, Alysha Wu and Nathan Lai, who will miss her dearly.

Rest in peace, dear mother. May God grant you everlasting love, peace, and happiness in heaven. You will forever be in our hearts and memories.
