Shong Men Cheung was born on 9 July 1932 in Hoiping (Kaiping) Four Nine, Guangdong, China. Beloved son of Lai Chee Cheung and Guey Kuey Mar, he followed his father to Canada in 1955. He married Juliet Shue Yin Low, and together they had seven children: Howland (Diana), Pauline (Stewart), Ellen, Howard (deceased), Howing, Luxine (Drew), and Howie (Lena). Juliet passed on 22 September 2003, and since then, Shong Men devoted his time to being a loving father, grandfather (Adrienne (Noel), Stephanie (Steven), Alex, Michael, Rachelle (Dave), Celine (Colton), Justin, Aaron, Amy (Daniel), Ryan, Emily, Vanessa, Maxine (Francis), Jonathan (Johanna), Robert (Amy), and Kimberly (Andy), and great-grandfather (Carter, Brooklyn, Kai, Hannah, Madison, Bailey, Avery, Mabel, Harper, Leo, Enzo, Camden, Toby, Raine, Ace, Evan, Lily, and Christopher) to his extended family in both the Greater Toronto Area and British Columbia. After almost 60 years living in the Beaches, Shong Men spent the final year of his life at Kensington Hospice, where he passed away peacefully on 1 May 2026.
