It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Shizuka Takaoka, of Toronto, Ontario, the evening of Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the age of 50. Born in Bangkok, Thailand on November 1, 1974, Shizuka’s young life took her from Bangkok, to Ibaraki, Japan, to North York and then Waterloo in Ontario, Canada.
She met the love of her life, Dale, with whom she spent 27 years together, living in Toronto for over 21 years in wonderful matrimony. Her life was filled with smiles and laughter, always together with her husband, and enjoying the company of her fur babies, Kuri, Momo, and Mame, all of whom were the centre of her world.
Practically joined at the hip, Shizuka and Dale travelled to places she had dreamed about - Spain, Paris, Lisbon, Disney, Disney, and Disney. They shared many other trips to visit family, friends, and sights that their car, or passport, would take them. From the everyday to the extraordinary, they would experience life and the world together. Shizuka also enjoyed the quiet moments and was a contented homebody, spending long, quiet hours with Dale and her babies.
She was never the life of the party, but she never wanted to be. She would be the one who made sure you had enough to eat and drink, that you were comfortable, and would get home safe. She would be the one sitting with the person who was all alone, making sure they were included or taking the kids off the parents’ hands for a while. She cared about the well-being of the people, and animals, in her life. Her goal was to make sure the person who she was paying attention to was loved.
Honour her by hugging your family, thinking about someone else first, and being kind to animals.
She leaves behind her husband, Dale Cheong, mother, Shizue Takaoka, sister, Kumi, and brother, Dai. She is also survived by her cherished fur babies: her (Cairn Terrier) baby girl, Kuri, her (Maine Coon) baby boy Momo, and her (Orange Cat) baby bean, Mame.
Shizuka is predeceased by her father, Hironobu Takaoka, who passed away in November of 2016.
A visitation has been scheduled at the Elgin Mills Funeral Centre at 1591 Elgin Mills Road East in Richmond Hill, ON on Sunday, May 25 from 9 AM to 11:00 AM. Please come to remember Shizuka and share your memories of her with each other.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate in her memory to the Toronto Cat Rescue at https://www.torontocatrescue.ca/ or Mattie’s Place at https://mattiesplace.ca/ to support Shizuka’s love of animals and her wish that each one has a loving home.
