Our beloved Sau Ying Tang passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026 at the age of 93. Loving wife of King Yau Tang for more that 70 years. Cherished mother to the Hubert (& his wife Janice) and the Late Cheuk Fai. Proud grandmother to Evan, Amanda and Kristen. Sister to Hung Sau, Tok Lun, Chuck Ying, Nue Lan, Pak Lun, Shui Lun and Yuk Lin.
Sau Ying was born in Toisan, Guangdong, China on July 8, 1933. Her husband, King Yau brought her and their older son Cheuk to Toronto, Canada circa 1968. She worked as a seamstress while raising her youngest son Hubert.
She was a faithful member of Chinese Gospel Church of Toronto. She loved singing and served in the Seniors' Cantonese Choir.
Sau Ying showed her love to others by making and giving them her special Chinese food. She spent countless hours in the kitchen and was well known for her various tay ( traditional steamed or fried delicacies), doong / joong (rice wrapped in large flat leaves with savoury filling into a pyramid or box shape), dumplings, steamed buns and her famous cupcakes. Many of her delicious creations were generously shared with friends, family and the Children's Sunday School. She loved making them and taught others to make them. No one left my parent's house hungry. She was very hospitable.
Sau Ying's love and the memory of her comforting home-made traditional Chinese sweet and savoury specialties will live on in our hearts.
