It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Samuel Ngok Kong Hui, who died peacefully on July 20, 2026, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Facing a grim prognosis, he met his illness with the same resilience and quiet strength that defined his life.
Born in Hong Kong on July 5, 1949, Samuel pursued his education in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom before completing his medical residency in Canada, where he met his future wife, Elaine. He went on to practice medicine in Hong Kong until his retirement, earning the trust and respect of the community he served.
Samuel was a man of curiosity and engagement with the world. He followed the news closely, always eager to understand and discuss current events, and held a lifelong fascination with space exploration. He was an avid reader with a deep love of books, and an adventurous traveller who embraced opportunities to explore new places and cultures throughout his life.
Samuel was predeceased by his father, Hui Song Ling; his mother, Day Tsae Er; and his brothers John and Patrick.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Elaine; his son, Justin (Michelle); and his daughter, Annie. He is also survived by his sister Agnes and family; his brother Daniel and family; his brother David; and his sisters-in-law Kitty and family, and Emma and family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and North York General Hospital for their care of Samuel throughout his illness.
A visitation will be held privately for family on Tuesday, July 28, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre, 1591 Elgin Mills Road East, Richmond Hill, followed by interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
