It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Richard Young. With family at his bedside, Richard passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2nd, at Sunnybrook Hospital. Richard always put family first. He loved his family deeply, and his love never wavered. He taught us the importance of determination hard work, and perseverance, even on the hardest of days.
Richard was born in Guangzhou, China, and came to Canada when he was 8 years old. He was met with challenging times, but even at a young age, he proved to be adaptable and resourceful. Richard was gentle and a man of simple means, and always found joy in the little things. He loved to laugh, and his dry sense of humour will be deeply missed. Richard loved spending time with family and those closest to him. He loved listening to his vinyl records and passed on his love of 60s and 70s Folk and Classic Rock music to his children. Richard was incredibly resilient and strong, especially in mind and spirit. In his lifetime, he endured more than his fair share of hardships and persevered through, without a word of complaint. His mental toughness was admirable and incomparable.
Richard leaves behind his four children; Amanda (Matthew), Vanessa (Kyle), Sarah (Matthew), and Andrew (Tannis). He was an incredibly proud and dedicated father, and undoubtedly found the most joy in playing with his three surviving grandchildren - Zoe, Charlie and Sophia. He is survived by his mother, Hing, and his four siblings: Christine (Rick), Stephen, Randy (Kimberly), and Gary (Melodie). He was generous with his time and sought to help the many nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family across Canada and China. We are eternally grateful for the caregiver support we have had - Cora, Brenda, Malou, Suzette, Nirmala, Norma, and our Bayshore PSWs, who have treated our father as family, always showing such kindness and devotion to his wellbeing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Muscular Dystrophy foundation of Canada.
