It is with profound sadness that the family of Rebecca Suk Kwan Kam announces her passing. Rebecca, 69, of Toronto, passed away on April 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was a Christian woman of deep conviction who both knew Christ, and made Him known in her every act of care, her forgiving nature to those who needed it, and her unwavering commitment to God through faith.
Born on December 24, 1956, in Hong Kong to Kwok Ying Lau and Chu Lui Lau, Rebecca was the third of six children. She was known for her warmth, her endlessly positive spirit, and her gift for making people feel welcome. She loved to travel, delighted in good food, and believed that some of life’s best moments were the ones shared around a table with the people she loved.
Thirty-nine years ago, Rebecca and her beloved husband, Edmund Kam, made the brave and difficult decision to leave Hong Kong and begin a new life in Canada. In doing so, they left behind the comfort of what was known: home, family, language, community, and the quiet security of belonging. They stepped instead into a new country, knowing that the path ahead would bring hardship, uncertainty, and sacrifice. But like so many loving parents, Rebecca and Edmund carried those burdens willingly, sustained by the hope of a better future for their children.
Together, Rebecca and Edmund built a life rooted in love and family. Through sacrifice, perseverance, and unwavering devotion, they raised their two children, Ray and Gloria, and succeeded in every way that truly matters. In later years, nothing brought Rebecca greater happiness than being a grandmother. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she treasured the love, laughter, and tenderness they brought into each day God granted her.
Rebecca is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Edmund Kam; her son, Ray Kam and his wife, Stephanie; her daughter, Gloria Houghton and her husband, Mark; and her cherished grandchildren, Raychel, Madeleine, and Braydon. She is also survived by her devoted siblings Michael Lau, Mary Leung, Hugo Lau, John Lau and Elly Lau, extended family, and many friends.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the quiet, steady love she gave so freely. Her family takes comfort in knowing that the warmth she brought into their lives will remain with them always.
