It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Philomena Macken, who was born on November 17, 1951, in Dublin, Ireland, and passed away on February 22, 2026, due to heart complications.
Philomena’s life was marked by resilience, devotion to family, and a deep capacity for love. Born and raised in Dublin, she carried her Irish spirit with her throughout her life — strong, warm, and fiercely loyal to those she cherished.
She was predeceased by her beloved life partner, Giovanni Zagarella; her first-born son, Grant Paterson; and her dear siblings Vera, Barney (Gloria), Rosaline (Wally), Tom, Marie, and John. Their memories remained close to her heart always.
Philomena is lovingly remembered by her siblings Dina (George), Dolores (Omar), Sheila (Mike), the partners of her deceased siblings Eli, Ray, and Lynn, along with her many nieces, nephews, their partners, and their children, who held a special place in her life.
She leaves behind her youngest son, Charlie (Kat), and her grandson Giovanni. She is also survived by her stepchildren: Paula (Marco) and their children Mario, Michael, and Marissa; Carmela and her beloved husband Angelo, and their daughter Cassia; Teresa and her children Alexis and Daniella, and grandson Leo; and Joanna (John) and their sons Joseph and Michael.
Philomena was a proud and loving Nan to her grandsons Dakota (Emily) and Landon, and a caring mother-in-law to Tara Paterson. Her family was her greatest joy.
Philomena will be remembered for her strength, her generous heart, and her unwavering commitment to her family. Her presence brought comfort and laughter, and her love created a foundation that will continue through generations.
Philomena is being cremated on Monday March 2nd at 10:30am. A celebration of Philomena’s life will be held in the near future at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Services. Family and friends will be invited to gather to honour her memory and share in remembrance.
Though deeply missed, Philomena’s love and spirit will live on in all who knew her.
