It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Pauline Wu (née Chi) on September 28, 2026, at 11:11 a.m., at the age of 94.
Born on June 1, 1932, in Weihai, China, Pauline lived a remarkable life marked by courage, resilience, hard work, and an unwavering devotion to her family. At the age of 18, she bravely left China for Hong Kong in search of a better future. In May 1967, she immigrated to Canada, where she built a loving home and a life centered around her family.
Pauline was the beloved wife of David Wu and a loving mother to Judy, John, and William (Debbie). She was a devoted grandmother to Heather, Jonathan, Harrison, Kaitlyn, Megan, Joshua, and Rachel, who were the greatest joy of her life. She took immense pride in their lives and accomplishments and loved watching them grow into the people they became.
Pauline was strong-willed, hardworking, and determined. Having overcome many challenges throughout her life, she faced adversity with quiet strength and a remarkable will to persevere. She was modest and rarely spent money on herself, preferring instead to make sure her family had what they needed. Her greatest rewards came from seeing her family together and knowing they were happy.
She will also be remembered for the many ways she brought her family together. Pauline was a wonderful cook, especially known for the elaborate family meals she prepared for Chinese New Year and her famous homemade dumplings. She loved sharing her traditions with her grandchildren, teaching them how to play mah-jong, and creating cherished memories together, including family cruises and vacations.
An avid gardener, Pauline seemed to possess a special gift for bringing even the most neglected plants back to life. Perhaps it was a reflection of her own character—patient, determined, and always willing to nurture something back to health and help it flourish.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on October 8, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
A celebration of Pauline’s life for the family will follow at Kingsfield Chinese Cuisine (2910 Major Mackenzie Drive E) at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pauline’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Ontario: https://alzheimer.ca/on/en?form=Ontario_donate
Pauline leaves behind more than memories. She leaves behind the traditions she passed on, the values she lived by, the family she devoted her life to, and the generations who will carry her love forward.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
