It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and matriarch, Panagiota (Betty) Siomis, on June 29, 2026. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family.
In her final moments, Panagiota faced the inevitable with the same grace, quiet strength, and unwavering courage that defined her life—qualities that reflected her proud Spartan roots and remarkable spirit.
She was the devoted wife of Nikolaos, with whom she shared 64 beautiful years of marriage; the loving and selfless mother of Helen (Nick), Mary (Rick), and Greg (Maria); and the proud and cherished grandmother of Victoria and Nicholas. Her family was her greatest joy, and every decision she made was rooted in love for them.
Born in Dafni, Sparta, Greece, Panagiota was the youngest of four children and was predeceased by her parents, George and Eleni Stratakos, and by her beloved siblings, Harilaos, Leonidas, and Fotini. At just 22 years old, on August 11, 1953, she courageously left the only home she had ever known to begin a new life in Canada. During a return visit to Greece in 1961, she met the love of her life, Nikolaos. They were married and returned together to Toronto in 1962, where they built a beautiful life founded on faith, love, perseverance and family.
To know Panagiota was to know kindness. She had a gentle heart, an unwavering faith and a quiet strength that made everyone around her feel loved and welcome.
A devoted Christian, Panagiota lived her life as an example of humility, generosity, compassion and grace. Her faith was the foundation of who she was and she expressed it not only through prayer but through the way she cared for others every single day.
Her greatest legacy is not found in what she had but in how she made people feel. She taught us the importance of faith, family, kindness and unconditional love. Her strength and beautiful character will continue to guide us and her love will remain woven into our lives forever.
Though our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for the gift of having known and loved her. She will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and never forgotten.
May her memory be eternal.
