My beloved father, Pastor Emerson Malabed, was born in the Philippines in 1954. The eldest of four children of Andres Malabed Jr and Irene Malabed, brother to Andreline Formoso , Andres Malabed III and Ferdinand Malabed.
At the age of 18, he met his wife Carmelita, beginning a love story that would endure a lifetime of love for their 2 children; Iriezen Babasa and Angelica Malabed; and grandchildren Kylah, Kaitlyn and Kryztian. Their love for each other touched everyone around them.
In 1997, Emerson moved to Canada along with his daughter Iriezen to be with his wife Carmelita. He left his professional life a Sales Associate, so he can build a life together with his family in Scarborough, ON.
Emerson loved to take his boat to go fishing and to be around with family and friends at Napanee. Their house in the winter and their cottage in the summer were places of gathering, where meals, rich with Filipino homemade food, left everyone happy and full.
September 2025, he was diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer. He showed immense strength and fought a courageous battle. Emer approached his illness with grace, continuing to bring warmth and humor to his family and friends. He passed away peacefully, after a long battle with cancer on May 5, 2026 at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the team at Sunnybrook Health Science Centre for their compassionate care. During his last few hours, Papa Emer was surrounded with family and friends.
We remain profoundly grateful for the time and love he gave us. We will carry that love forward and share it with those around us.
Papa Emer, thank you for everything and may you rest in peace.
Papa Lolo, thank you for all the love and support, may you rest in eternal peace.
