With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Omrel Monica Heather Weekes (née Jones) on Thursday June 4, 2026. She peacefully left this world with her family by her bedside, to be with our Heavenly Father. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Omrel, known to many as “Ammie” was born on May 19, 1948, in St. Philip Barbados. She was the youngest child of the late Cecil and Rita Jones. As a young girl, she attended Bayley’s Primary School where she quickly advanced through her studies. Omrel continued to establish herself as a diligent and intelligent student at Christ Church Girls’ Foundation School, where she achieved the honour of being head girl twice during her tenure. She was an active participant in Shrewsbury Methodist Church, where she often contributed bible readings and Sunday School leadership and enjoyed participating in the harvest celebrations. Omrel began her banking career in Barbados at Barclays bank.
In 1970, Omrel immigrated to Montreal Canada where she continued her banking career at the Royal Bank of Canada. It was here she met the love of her life George Weekes and the pair married on September 15, 1973. Their 53 years of marriage was filled with love, laughter and kindness and from this love they produced two children, Lynn and Kristy. Lynn and Kristy were Omrel’s pride and joy and she sacrificed so much to make sure that they always had everything that they needed growing up and even as adults.
In 1983, the Weekes family moved to Scarborough Ontario in support of Omrel’s Royal Bank position moving to Toronto. She became an active member of Knox United Church participating in services, sharing children’s stories, and being involved with various boards and small groups. In particular, she held her photography group very close to heart and enjoyed many outings and get-togethers with them. Another one of her hobbies was worldwide travel, and she could often be found jet-setting to fabulous locations such as Russia, China or Australia/New Zealand.
Omrel was a caregiver to many. Her house was always full of laughter, family, friends and her fantastic cooking. She will always be remembered for her openness, loving nature and humour. She warmly welcomed son in-law’s, Justin Beausoleil and Noel Hylton into her family, and she was overjoyed when she became a grandmother to Maya and Noah Beausoleil. Grandma’s two ‘sweethearts’ were the light of her life.
Omrel was predeceased by her parents Cecil and Rita Jones. Her legacy will be carried on by her devoted husband George Anthony Weekes, her loving children Lynn Weekes (Noel Hylton) and Kristy Beausoleil (Justin Beausoleil) and her cherished grandchildren Maya and Noah Beausoleil. She was a loving sister to Inez (the late Stafford) Alleyne, Cuthbert (the late Eusleen), Clevison (Gloria), and Arthur Jones, and the late Montelle (James) Clarke, Whitfield, Muriel “Abby” and James Jones, Olina, Earl and Randoph Alleyne. Sister-in Law of Cheryl (Richard) Taylor- Agard. Aunt of Roy, Juliet (Earl) and Dr. Kathy-Anne Clarke, Dawn and Andrea Alleyne, Shermaine (Carlton), Hailes, June (Robert), Richard, Patrick and Christopher Jones, Erlene Johnson, Clyde Best, and the late David and Henson Allyene. Great-Aunt/Great Great-Aunt to Christian and Alexa Clarke, Torin (Jennifer), Renée, Shennel (Stanley), Tyrese, Jaylen, and Taye Jordan, Elijah and Ethan Jones-Young, Sage and Shayden Torchon. Cousin of Everlyne Jones.
She is reunited with those who went before her and will be deeply missed by family and friends.
