The fourth of six children of John and Elsie Kapuscinski, Nell was born in Saskatchewan during the Great Depression and raised in Kelvington. Nell benefitted from a strong work ethic, humility, a wonderful sense of humour, and a positive, thankful attitude, as well as good health for most of her ninety years. She earned two degrees from the University of Regina and held management positions in information technology. She married the love of her life, Denis Exner, in 1959.
They lived in many places throughout western Canada and Ontario, raising their two children mostly in Regina. Following the death of Denis in 2000, she moved to Toronto to be near her then two grandchildren. Wherever she went Nell made innumerable friends and positively influenced all around her. She loved travelling throughout the world, often in her later years with her sister Phyllis.
She also loved visiting with friends and family, the theatre and the arts, her walking group and her golf companions. She did extensive volunteer work wherever she lived.
Nell is also predeceased by her beloved sisters Phyllis (2025) and Betty (1981) and brother Frank (2019). She will be greatly missed by many relatives and friends across Canada, including brothers Joe (Regina) and Adam (Edmonton), daughter Deanna (Bruce Arnott), son Derek (Erin Wallace) and three adoring grandchildren, David and Sarah Arnott (Toronto) and Julia Exner (Calgary).
A special thank you to Nell’s dearest friend Agnes Posadzy who was a source of joy to Nell and her family and to the wonderful care teams at Bridgepoint Hospital.
A celebration of Nell’s life will be held at the Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre, 625 Birchmount Road, on Friday June 26, at 2:00 pm (EST) followed by a reception. Those who cannot attend in person are invited to watch the service via livestream at www.etouch.ca starting at 1:45 pm (EST).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Stratford Festival (Ontario) or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
