It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Murray Coburn, who passed away peacefully on the evening of September 8, 2026, at Bissett Court Nursing Home in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia.
Murray was born and raised in Minden, Ontario. In the early 1960s, he made his way to Oshawa, where he began a long and dedicated career with General Motors. For 37 years, he was a proud and committed employee.
On July 11, 1964, Murray married the love of his life, Barbara, whom he lovingly called “Barbie.” Together, they built a beautiful life in Oshawa and raised their two daughters. In his later years, Murray joined his family on the East Coast, where he spent his final four years surrounded by those he loved.
Murray was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Doris Coburn; his sister, Sharon Kernohan; and his beloved wife, Barbara, who remained the love of his life.
He leaves behind his two daughters, Sherry Coburn and Tammie Maynard (Rusty), who were blessed to have him as the most incredible father. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Rhiannon Soutar (Alex) and Joshua Maynard (Laura), who lovingly called him Opa and Papa. Murray was a caring and proud great-grandfather to Lexci, Arden, Maeve, Katherine, and Chelsea.
Murray will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit, his charm, his sparkling blue eyes, and the warmth he brought to those around him. Above all, he will be remembered for his deep and unwavering faith in the Lord.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Murray’s memory to the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) would be greatly appreciated.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff at Bissett Court Nursing Home in Cole Harbour. The care, compassion, and kindness you showed Murray during his final days meant more to our family than words can express.
In honour of Murray’s memory, the next time you hear “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver, we hope you’ll think of Murray—the man we loved so dearly, who is now resting peacefully.
We find comfort in imagining the love that surrounds him now, as he is reunited in Heaven with his beloved Barbie and the loved ones who went before him.
Rest peacefully, Murray. You will be forever loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.
