Muoi Ngu Luong, loving mom, grandmother and great grandmother passed away on November 4, 2025, surrounded by family. Never one to turn down adventure, Muoi was always up for good food with even better company.
She was born in China on June 4, 1932 and later migrated to Vietnam where she grew up and started a family. In an ultimate display of love and sacrifice, Muoi, with her husband and six children in tow, fled their war torn country in search for a better life for themselves and future generations. In a remarkable display of resilience, determination and grit truly representative of the immigrant experience, Muoi and her family collectively endured financial hardship, the culture shock associated with being newcomers to the country and having to rebuild their lives from the ground up.
Muoi was predeceased by her husband, Hoa Mach (2018) and eldest son, Cuong Mach (1994). She is survived by her daughter, Tinh Gian Chan (Kiam Chan), daughter in law, Lisa My Binh Mach, and sons Loi Mach (Thu Mach), Nhon Mach, Minh Mach (Tam Mai), and Hien Mach who selflessly cared for her until her very last breath. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren, Helen Mach (Alexander Lee), Amy Mach (Brad King), Andy Mach, Sophia Chan, Jennifer Mach (Phil McClean), Cindy Mach (Max Borges), Brian Mach (Le Duong Tu Oanh), Claudie Mach (Terrence Lin), Alex Mach and step grandkids, Nhung Nguyen and Ngoc Nguyen. Muoi had 6 great grandchildren, Ava & Callum McClean, Harper & Maverick King, Rheia Lee and An He Mach who will only ever know her through stories and photographs.
Muoi enjoyed watching Chinese Operas and had a particularly strong appreciation for Joyce Koi Ming Fei and staying up watching TVB drama series. She was a foodie before foodie was even a word and was always out gallivanting around town in search of new food and restaurants to try and good Dimsum. She loved gathering with friends and family to play mahjong, and pointedly taught her grandkids how to play the game so she'd always have someone to play with as she got older.
Grandma was known to have a particular dislike for being kissed on the cheek (for fear of people leaving traces of their saliva behind), sitting on warm seats and had a strong preference for cold water over warm. Strangely, she always peeled the skin off of BBQ pork buns before eating them, doubting the cleanliness of the people whose hands may have handled them.
A celebration of life will be held at York Cemetery and Funeral Center in North York. Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025 from 4:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services and final visitation will be held on Monday November 10th from 9:00-10:00 AM. In lieu of white gold, please consider making a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation on behalf of our beloved matriarch.
Muoi's departure from this life has left a deep wound, gravely felt by the entire family and countless others who loved her and those who were loved by her. Grandma, you will always be loved, always be missed and always be remembered. May you rest in peace.
