In memory of

Mike Kowalishin

May 14, 1952 - May 5, 2026

Michael was the beloved son of the late Dr Paul Kowalishin and his wife, the late Alice Kowalishin. He is survived by, and is the cherished brother of his twin Teresa (Chris Holoboff), sisters Maureen (Don Storey), and Nadine (Brant Latham) as well as nieces and nephews that will all miss him.

Mike lived his entire life in his home, with bedroom full of cherished collections and mementos of his life, always kept in perfect condition. Ensuring Mike was able to age surrounded by the things and people he cared about most, was a testament to the fierce love and strength of his parents, sisters and beloved caregivers, Kelly and Cheryl, and roommate in his later years, Tim. He was lovingly cared for by his mother, until she passed at the age of 95. In the years that followed, Mike gained a great sense of independence. Along with his sister Maureen, with whom he shared a special connection, he became deeply involved in the DAFERS community. Mike and Maureen took great joy in spending time with others who require assistance and their families, inspiring them with the possibilities of independent living.

His years were filled with coffees by the lake, drives, Blue Jays games, visits to the midway at the Ex, and sitting with his cats who were dear companions over the years. All accompanied by a soundtrack of old movies, game shows and of course the Shopping Channel.

Mike was loved fiercely because he loved purely. Without judgement, full of trust and joy. Once you became Mike’s friend, you were his friend forever - and were better for it.

His smiles and sweet hellos from the top of the stairs will be deeply missed.

The family is grateful to the many people and associations for their assistance in Mikes’ life.

There will be a private funeral for Mike.
