On Friday April 3rd, 2026, Michael William Robbins passed away at the age of 80 after courageously living with Parkinson’s disease for 13 years. Michael passed peacefully, holding the hands of his two children.
Preceding him in death were his beloved partner Edith Gottwald; his parents Carl and Floretta Robbins (nee Travis); and sisters Marlyn Robbins -Zimmer (Larry Zimmer) and Faye Heino. His memory is carried on by his sister Deborah Robbins (Brian Reynolds). He also leaves behind his two loving children Mark Robbins and Katherine Robbins (Robert Adamson) and their mother Theresa Mercurio-Robbins, with whom he shared many years of his life. Michael was also a proud and adoring grandfather to Zoey and Avery Adamson.
Michael’s core philosophy was to take life head-on. From a young man and throughout his years, he challenged himself to develop new skills and reach new heights. He always encouraged others around him to do the same, acting as their pillar of support. He was the first in his lineage to go to University, a milestone that honoured the hard work of his parents, who did not have the same opportunities. Michael earned a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s of Business Administration, notably as one of just two Black graduates in his program. Following his studies, he began a 40-year career in production and operations management that spanned industries from textiles to aerospace-defense and software.
An active and competitive sportsman, Michael found joy in tennis, golf, downhill skiing and scuba diving. He was also a passionate collector of art and music, possessing a hidden talent for sketching that he rarely shared with others. He made the most of his retirement years by spending his winters in the Florida sunshine. His days were spent reading sci-fi thrillers and working on his own book, while his evenings were spent dancing and drinking wine with his loving partner Edith.
If asked about his greatest accomplishment, Michael would readily say it was his children. To them, he was more than a loving father; he was a jungle gym builder, a sports coach, a patient tutor, and a gentle listener. His was a beautiful life that touched the hearts of many along the way.
