Forever in our hearts. May, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025.
To know May was to feel warmth, joy and connection. She was the life of every party - radiating energy and laughter that brought people together wherever she went. A true social butterfly, May had an ability to make anyone feel like they belonged. Her home was where family and friends gathered, where stories were shared and memories were made. May was the heart and soul of her family, the glue that held everyone close. She was a devoted wife to Tony, a nurturing and loving mother to Yunnie (Michael) Balders, and the most adoring grandmother to her two precious grandsons, Hugh and Lee. Nothing brought her more joy than holding her grandsons and watching them grow.
May was also a wonderful and caring sister to her five siblings in Hong Kong: Wing Keung, Suk Yee, Wing Kin, and Wing Hang and was predeceased by her eldest brother Wing Hong. All with whom she shared a lifelong bond that distance could never diminish. She treasured her roots and carried the spirit of home wherever she went. She was also a deeply devoted aunt, cherishing and supporting her nieces and nephews - both those in Hong Kong, Toronto, Ottawa, and those from her extended family.
In her spare time, May found joy in the graceful movements of Tai Chi, which she practiced several times a week. She immersed herself in the elegance of Chinese calligraphy, a recent art she pursued. She had many groups of friends which she regularly met for lunch and never turned down a good game of mahjong. These hobbies brought together many of her greatest joys: connection, tradition, and a little friendly competition.
She taught us all the importance of staying close, making time for one another, and loving unconditionally. Her laughter remains in our hearts, her love still surrounds us, and her memory will remain forever bright.
A celebration of May's life will be held on June 11th, 2025 at York Funeral Centre, where all who knew and loved her are welcome to gather and honour her beautiful life. She was our rock, our spark and our light. We will miss her more than words can ever express, but we will take comfort in knowing her spirit lives on in the love she gave and the lives she touched.
The family kindly invites donations in her memory to causes close to her heart. The National Ballet of Canada, which she loved to attend. Or a charitable initiative to support children's love of reading and writing. As a child, one of her dreams was to become a writer. Contributions may be directed to the Children's Book Bank or please reach out to the family at a later time for more information should a specific initiative be established.
