In memory of

Mark Christopher (Chris) Twomey

October 14, 1960 - October 24, 2026

It is with deep gratitude that we celebrate the life and mourn the death of Chris Twomey. A beloved partner to Terry Costantino for over 41 years, Chris brought music into every life he touched as a brother to John (Laurie) and Sarah, an uncle to Carlin and Meghan, a brother-in-law to Mike (Kim) and Victoria and to so many as a friend, DJ, VJ, journalist, broadcaster and retailer.

Chris graduated from the Radio and Television Arts program at Ryerson (now TMU), and was a Music Director and Assistant Program Director at their student station CKLN. Later he was a programmer for University Of Toronto's CIUT and on-line stations Virtually Canadian and 1Groove.com.

Chris interviewed many prominent and fringe music artists for his on-air and written journalism, which included writing regularly for Exclaim, Eye, Metropolis and others. He was proud to be one of the contributors to Art Metropole's anthology Sound By Artists.

Among his many highlights as a DJ was opening for Patti Smith during her debut performances at the Phoenix in 1995 after her long absence from performing, opening for experimental radio-wave artist Scanner (Robin Rimbaud) at McLaughlin Planetarium shortly before it closed in 1995 and the first performance of the Drone Mix at the record-setting concert atop the CN Tower by the British rock band Spiritualized in 1997.

Many will remember him from music retail at the Record Peddler, Seekers Books and independently as well as his ground-breaking video show Industrial Video presented at The Rivoli monthly for several years.

Profound thanks to the doctors, nurses and pharmacists at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Oncology Clinic, and the care team from Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care and SE Health.

There will be a Celebration of Life soon. Friends are welcome to contact Terry Costantino for details.
