It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Marilyn Faubert (née Porter) who passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026. Marilyn was born on May 18, 1935 in East York, Ontario (now Toronto). Predeceased by her husband Frank (1999), and her son Jean-Paul (2019), Marilyn is mourned by her surviving children Marc (Marlene), Judi Macpherson, Denine Scallen (Stephen), Michael (Andrea), and daughter-in-law Marilyn Kynaston (Jean-Paul). Marilyn (aka Granny/Grandma/Gran) will also be deeply missed by her grandchildren Mick, Melissa, Kate, Danielle, Jackson, Declan, Carson, Fiona, Tara, Lola, Sean, and her eight great-grandchildren.

Marilyn is also predeceased by her parents, George and Florence Porter; her eight brothers and sisters; as well as her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Marilyn is survived by her sister-in-law, Mandy Porter. Ev Pattison, her younger sister and life-long best friend, predeceased her in 2023. Marilyn will be missed by her nieces and nephews, close friends, and neighbours.

Marilyn was born in East York (now Toronto) and, while growing up, she lived in many different homes in East York, Scarborough, and Niagara-on-the-Lake (the family joke was that they were “out-running” the landlord). Once she and Frank married and bought their home in Scarborough, she stayed there for the next 54 years! Before having children, Marilyn worked at Metropolitan Insurance Company but her dream of being a mom came true and she transitioned into a stay-at-home mother. Eventually, to help support Frank’s political aspirations, Marilyn began working for the TD Bank. She worked for TD for 21 years, transferring to her neighbourhood branch at Brimorton/Orton Park, where she was a fixture for 18 of those years. While many people in Scarborough knew her as the wife of Frank Faubert, the politician, a considerable number of people in Curran Hall knew her as Mrs. Faubert from the bank. Marilyn officially retired from the bank when she was 60 but continued to work there on a casual basis until there was an armed robbery at that branch. Thankfully, she survived that terrifying incident, and her second retirement took place immediately.

Marilyn was lucky enough to raise five wonderful children (or five rotten kids, depending on the day). Marilyn instilled a sense of honesty and a good work ethic in all her children. She was no-nonsense when it came to making them take responsibility for their actions. Marilyn was also fierce in their defence (as at least two teachers found out). She was a prankster and she loved to laugh with them all. However, when she pursed her lips, they knew they were in trouble! All of Marilyn’s kids knew she loved them deeply and unconditionally, even though she fed them liver, or Brussels sprouts regularly.

Marilyn had many great friends in her lifetime. She had so many good laughs with those friends, especially the ladies from her Euchre club, of which she was a member for decades. The Euchre club went on many outings together, including a cruise where they successfully managed to sneak wine aboard. What great fun for those septuagenarians! Marilyn also loved to play poker with her family and she frequented Casino Rama with Ev.

Tragically, at age 79, Marilyn suddenly lost her vision from an autoimmune disease. Marilyn’s positive attitude got her through each day as she struggled to accept and live with this hardship. Not being able to see her grandchildren’s faces was heartbreaking to her. Eventually, she could no longer live alone, so Marilyn spent the last 11 years of her life living in Trilogy Long Term Care in Scarborough. Many thanks to the nursing staff and the PSWs who took care of her and laughed along with her jokes.

Marilyn was a life-long donor to the Salvation Army, an organization that provided care packages to her mom, her sister, Ev, and brother, Jack, while their father was away during the war.
